Leonid Meteor Shower Peak

Tonight was probably the most appropriate night to see the sky. Because the Orionid meteor shower will peak tonight. The average is expected to see 15-20 meteors per hour. But, of course if the condition of the sky is really dark.
Not just a meteor shower, tonight there are also other sights, in the form of the planet Jupiter, which was heading the opposition (closest point to Earth), the constellation Orion, the constellation Canis Mayoris, Sirius is the brightest star and seven star angel.
To be able to enjoy the night and hunt for meteor with a maximum, there are a few tips. Here are tips from Mutoha Arkanuddin Community of Jogja Astro Club.
1. Pray for clear skies that night. The brighter, the more meteors can be seen.
2. Find a dark, airy and secure. For example, by going to the beach. Bring some friends as well so the atmosphere more lively. Do not forget to also bring a snack, a flashlight, repellents and other supplies.
3. Before the observations, it is better to download the software Stellarium. After that, try to identify celestial objects and a few constellations that look.

Eartha Kitt

When you have children, talking about bodily functions is a-okay. You can sip your latté and regale your fellow parents about the latest brown nugget your offspring has squeezed out and instead of your coffee buddies spitting java all over their Boden they will nod enthusiastically and then recount a similar tale about their spawn ‘dropping some friends off at the pool,’ ‘releasing a chocolate hostage,’ or ‘pushing out a panama.’

You get so familiar with dealing with all manner of viscous fluids that you become immune to them and don’t bat an eyelid at scraping vomit off the floor or scooping a floater out of the bath. It comes with the territory – and besides it’s way, way too late to get squeamish. So it comes as a bit of a shock when you hit some kind of hidden terminator line and you suddenly cannot talk about poo anymore – it’s just not done.

My son (as he is five) has a totally open door (literally) policy when it comes to pooing. He will describe in intimate detail how it’s progressing, how long the ETA is and whether the wiping is something he can handle himself or if he needs to call in professional help. He has no embarrassment about it at all, and so he shouldn’t. We have a book called Everybody Poos by Tara Gomi, which the kids love, and it’s all about pooing and reducing the stigma associated with it – maybe multiple readings of it have made my kids comfortable with it, who knows? It’s a great picture book, and I recommend it.

Well, I feel a list coming on. In the spirit of openness here is a quickscan classification the next time you ‘lay a chocolate egg‘:

The Turtle You are prepared, psyched for it and then you have a turtle. It pops it’s head out, but the rest is not forthcoming and then you have a dilemma. Do you: A: Play the waiting game? B: Suck it back in and try again later or C: Just accept that you’re going to use a lot of toilet paper? I say B and get some coffee and exercise – guaranteed result.
The Machine Gun Kelly For a few moments you worry it may be a turtle…or an Epic but then, like Machine Gun Kelly you pepper the water like you are trying to finish off a submerged gangster. Yes, you have turned into a gangster rabbit…or a deer.
The Epic You know you have to start tinkering with your diet when you produce an Epic or two – it takes so long you have to take reading material. The worst is if you undertake an Epic in a public loo or at a friend’s house as the former will result in an x-factoresque queue half a mile long and the latter will make people worry you’ve done an Elvis.
The Chocolate Milkshake Normally an indicator of ill health, a dodgy kebab or muchos muchos beer, The Chocolate Milkshake strikes fear into the hearts of grown men, children and toilet ducks. I had dysyntry in India once and I had to spend about a day, full time, on the toilet. That is my least entertaining travel story, ever. FACT.
The Piping What you really need for a Piping is some kind of gallery music as you’re like the Jane Asher of poo – normally messy and frequently a WMD.
The Paintballer Starts off as a Piping and then a couple of sneaky farts come out and before you know it you’re decorating the inside of your lav like a weekend warrior. Normally a WMD with a fearsome cleanup afterwards.
The You Can’t Handle the Truth You have a stack of reading material (you know you’ve written a light book when it is considered acceptable reading material in the loo), a block of uninterrupted time and the mental preparedness to take on an Epic…but no, it’s too big! Like squeezing out a bowling ball a YCHTT leaves you mentally scarred and slightly sweaty.

COLUMBUS DAY

I’d like to invite anyone whose name ends with a vowel (Persians excluded) to raise their hands, extend their middle fingers, and flip off the Native Americans, the hippies, and everyone else in the International Association of Crybabies who has a piss and a moan about Christopher Columbus.

This is not “indigenous people’s day,” it is not “la dia de la raza” and it isn’t frigging “wear a beret, listen to Joni Mitchell, and wear patchoulli day.”

To the “Native Americans” who have a beef with Columbus Day — suck it. First off, it isn’t as though you sprang from the goddamned earth in Foxwoods. You’re immigrants too. You just wandered across ice to get here. We took boats. You were here first? I give a fuck?

There was a war. You lost. That’s how it works. That’s why the Celts wound up living in Ireland, Scotland, and every shitty rain-soaked crag in which they could cling to life — because they lost wars. That’s why nobody speaks Gaulish or whatever Vercingetorix spoke. They lost the damn war.

PRIMETIME EMMY WINNERS

The very first Emmy Award was given to a ventriloquist named Shirley Dinsdale who worked with a puppet called Judy Splinters. Is that significant? Of course it is. That fact coupled with the design of the award itself – a woman holding an atom – represent the true heart of television’s most significant celebration: artistic inspiration, scientific technology, and wooden humanoids that only talk with a hand shoved up their back.

Ponder that while you bask in the glory of the victorious. Here are the winners of the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards.

Super Natural: Josh Hamilton

Holt knew Josh was special. Hamilton has heard this his whole life, beginning in Raleigh, North Carolina, when as a 6-year-old, he was outplaying boys twice his age. As a high school senior in 1999, he managed a .556 batting average. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays made him their No. 1 draft pick and gave him that $4 million check before he graduated.
His career has been up and down, mostly because of injuries and battles with drugs and alcohol. But by the summer of 2010, his third with the Rangers, fans were calling him special again: Hamilton had a monster season, batting .359 with 32 home runs and 100 rbis, despite missing 29 games due to injury. He led the Rangers to the World Series (where they lost to San Francisco), and was named the American League Most Valuable Player.
Getting Hamilton to admit he's special is a challenge. When he does, he says it with a touch of self-deprecation, because to Hamilton, "special" cuts two ways.
On one hand, it has made him a superstar. And it's made him rich; in February 2011, he signed a two-year contract extension with the Rangers for $24 million.
But being special also means never being able to carry one penny in his pocket, for fear he'll spend it on alcohol or drugs. It means always having to be protected—from himself—by one or more members of his personal support team every minute he's away from the ballpark. That team includes wife Katie, Rangers special assignment coach (and Bible study partner) Johnny Narron, fellow outfielder (and fellow Christian) David Murphy, and pitcher C. J. Wilson, who also eschews alcohol.
For Hamilton, being special means making sure the minibar is removed and in-room movies turned off before he stays in a hotel. It means having to be far more publicly candid about his sins than he'd like. It means one day having to explain to his three daughters the 26 tattoos—including one of Satan—that cover his impressive body.
And it means never being completely comfortable in social situations, not even in his own locker room, because he is and always will be an addict: one drink, one snort, or one puff away from self-destruction.
"I will never be normal, but I'm okay with that," Hamilton says.
Hamilton says it's all part of his "platform" for reaching people who deal with their own or loved ones' addictions, and for reaching people with the good news of the gospel.

Little Richard

Biography
One of the original rock & roll greats, Little Richard merged the fire of gospel with New Orleans R&B, pounding the piano and wailing with gleeful abandon. While numerous other R&B greats of the early '50s had been moving in a similar direction, none of them matched the sheer electricity of Richard's vocals. With his bullet-speed deliveries, ecstatic trills, and the overjoyed force of personality in his singing, he was crucial in upping the voltage from high-powered R&B into the similar, yet different, guise of rock & roll.
Heavily steeped in gospel music while growing up in Georgia, when Little Richard began recording in the early '50s he played unexceptional jump blues/R&B that owed a lot to his early inspirations Billy Wright and Roy Brown. In 1955, at Lloyd Price's suggestion, Richard sent a demo tape to Specialty Records, who were impressed enough to sign him and arrange a session for him in New Orleans. That session, however, didn't get off the ground until Richard began fooling

Happy Independence Day!

Today is the 235th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. On July 4, 1776, the American colonies of New England declared themselves to be a sovereign nation separate from Great Britain.
For businesses throughout the country, it is a day of high expectations, as people can be counted upon to hit the road and do their part to keep American commerce humming.
Bill Dodds-Scott, 85, Glenwood Springs, retired: “One thing, it's my birthday. Fourth of July means quite a bit to me. I like the fireworks. It's a good day.
“Fourth of July, of course, was the independence of the United States and everything, and that means a lot to me. It's a great country. I've been around a little bit, of course, and this is the best country in the world, and Colorado is the tops.”
Tara Meixsell, 50, New Castle, writer and teacher: “Baking cherry pie and making potato salad. To be honest, I often don't go out to public events, having to work. But it's a time for me to relax and kick back and take time for, what to me, are traditional foods. The cherry pie thing started in college, because we had a huge cherry tree out back.

Fireworks In Some North Texas Counties

Fourth of July celebrations will be without fireworks in some North Texas counties as the burn bans in those parts of the state include a ban on fireworks.
On Saturday, hundreds of North Texas residents flocked to the TNT Fireworks store in Mansfield, Texas to purchase Fourth of July fireworks.
"They're really excited.  They can wait to come out here and go set everything off here all at once," said Tim Thompson, a volunteer with TNT Fireworks.
Thompson said with each firework sold came a sheet of paper recommending a safe place to set off fireworks, along with some advice if people planned to celebrate on their own.
"The best thing for them to do is to check with the fire marshal in their area," said Thompson.  "They'll have the specific directions as to where you can set it off in specific areas to where you'll be safe and they can monitor."
Darnell Cramer was at the store Saturday buying fireworks for the first time, and she's taking Thompson's advice.
"We've talked to the fire marshals out here and they've told us to water every couple of hours for the next 24 hours until we set them off," she said.  "We've got two fire hoses on each side.  We've got 50 feet and we've already cleared a pile of land out and dug a hole so they're all contained in a small section."
Most North Texas counties are under a burn ban, but for many, fireworks are still allowed in unincorporated areas of those counties.  However, in Ellis and Parker counties, fireworks are completely banned to try and prevent fires.
The Kuper family of five spends each Fourth of July on a relative's ranch, but this year, they have a good reason to try and stay safe.  They've seen what a wildfire can do.
"His brother-in-law was affected by the Possum Kingdom, so it burned his house down in Possum Kingdom so it's very important to be careful," said Candice Kuper as she pointed to her husband.
"Just be careful and don't drink too much.  Absolutely know what you're doing before you are lighting them off," said Kuper.
