Fourth of July celebrations will be without fireworks in some North Texas counties as the burn bans in those parts of the state include a ban on fireworks.
On Saturday, hundreds of North Texas residents flocked to the TNT Fireworks store in Mansfield, Texas to purchase Fourth of July fireworks.
"They're really excited. They can wait to come out here and go set everything off here all at once," said Tim Thompson, a volunteer with TNT Fireworks.
Thompson said with each firework sold came a sheet of paper recommending a safe place to set off fireworks, along with some advice if people planned to celebrate on their own.
"The best thing for them to do is to check with the fire marshal in their area," said Thompson. "They'll have the specific directions as to where you can set it off in specific areas to where you'll be safe and they can monitor."
Darnell Cramer was at the store Saturday buying fireworks for the first time, and she's taking Thompson's advice.
"We've talked to the fire marshals out here and they've told us to water every couple of hours for the next 24 hours until we set them off," she said. "We've got two fire hoses on each side. We've got 50 feet and we've already cleared a pile of land out and dug a hole so they're all contained in a small section."
Most North Texas counties are under a burn ban, but for many, fireworks are still allowed in unincorporated areas of those counties. However, in Ellis and Parker counties, fireworks are completely banned to try and prevent fires.
The Kuper family of five spends each Fourth of July on a relative's ranch, but this year, they have a good reason to try and stay safe. They've seen what a wildfire can do.
"His brother-in-law was affected by the Possum Kingdom, so it burned his house down in Possum Kingdom so it's very important to be careful," said Candice Kuper as she pointed to her husband.
"Just be careful and don't drink too much. Absolutely know what you're doing before you are lighting them off," said Kuper.
